Can parents stop 17 yr. old from visiting disliked friends?
Hi, I'm 17 and I want to visit my friends in another town, who live in a community. My dad dislikes the place and says he won't let me go there for more than a few hours with supervision from either one of my parents. Can he legally stop me from going there?I don't want to cause trouble for my friends and think my dad is being unreasonable by not allowing me to even spend a weekend there w/o him.

It's strange you don't want to cause trouble for your friend but don't mind causing trouble for your father.
He still makes the rules, as you are still legally a minor. Mind your father and if and when you wish to socialize with this friend once you turn 18, feel free to do so. But right now, your father has every right to not allow you to socialize, unsupervised, with this friend. You may feel like and adult, and that may be, but legally, you are still a minor. You must obey your father's rules. It's non-negotiable. |

Perhaps you need more schooling to teach you reading comprehension skills. There was legal advice in that post. LEGALLY you are STILL A MINOR, and as such, your father has the LEGAL RIGHT to make the rules governing who you hang around with and who you don't.
You don't have to like only who your fathers tells you to like but you DO have to obey his rules while you are living, AS A MINOR, under his roof. Clear enough? |
