Default dropping the charges

I was slapped I press charges. my spouse got a lawyer and is pleading not guilty even though he admitted to officer on scene he slapped me. He wants me to drop the charges before the preliminary hearing. What would happen If I did this? if I drop them at the trial what would would happen then? Would I be considered a liar?

Default Re: dropping the charges

You cannot drop the charges. The state's prosecuting office will pursue this case either way. It's out of your hands now.

You can tell the prosecuting attorney you wish to drop the charges but that does not mean he/she still won't prosecute the case.

This is one reason domestic abuse laws are useless. People get upset, get physical, call the cops, and then make up. It's a waste on taxpayer dollars to have this law in place.
