School Dress Code (Can the school make him cut his hair?)

I have a 4th grade child. He wants to wear his hair different... He does not want to have a burr... His hair is to the middle of his ears and not really below the collar, -- he wants his hair to look shaggy.... (and If I would let him he would probably like to wear it long...I told him maybe this summer...)

Can the school make him cut his hair... we did cut it today because the principal told him twice... But leagally, can the school make him cut it? I know the school has a dress code, and if he does not follow the dress code I suppose he will be put in in --school suspension?

Help -- Are there any other cases like this one? I know I can't be the first parent to question the dress code?

Any comments or advice --anyone?

Normally you can object as long as the hair does not cause a disturbance or interfere with others. You also have the right to change schools within the district in most cases.
