Angry need advice

Is breach of faith a punishable offense in the US?

Here is the context of my question:
I came to the US with a pre - decided plan to stay with a school friend for a month and then figure out other options. She ordered expensive gifts from India, and i paid excess baggage duty to carry things for her.

After i left India, and while i was holidaying in south-east Asia, she sent me a mail that she wont be able to accomodate me. She did not say why, and so far none of our common friends has any idea of any problems in her life. She did not make any alternative arrangements and started avoiding calls from me and our other common friends. Due to this irresponsible behavior of hers, my entire US trip was spent in dealing with stay arrangements. I have lost loads of good opportunitites, tolerated loads of humiliation and been at the asking end for far too long, and eventually i just came back to India. However i have suffered a large financial loss, given up lots of good job interviews, suffered from several relationships gone wrong due to asking favours, and overall been through hell in terms of emotional and mental stress, since there was no accomodation available at the time.

Is there anything I can do about this ? I am in India now, so what rules apply and what can I do to at least cover my financial damages?

Default Re: need advice

Hard to sue for that unless you had some kind of actual contract or agreement.

Just the fact that you were going to stay there is normally not enough to sue for.
