Default Ontario: Deadbeat Dad back for child in court

My new wife's daughter's biological father is back in the scene. He has served my wife with court papers in order to gain access to their daughter.

He has been hiding out for years from the Family Responsibilities Office so that he wouldn't have to pay child support, and he has a very long history of "coming back into her life", making promises to her, and then disappearing again until the next Christmas.

The court date is about 3 weeks away, and he has a case he's been preparing for months, which is full of lies.

Generally, what can we do?

Specifically, I think it would be fair for us to want to push back the court date, in order to give us more time to prepare. How can we do that?

We're freaking out a little here, and I just need some help, please!

He will likely get some access if he wants it. But have the court also enforce his support payments, or have him thrown in jail.

Having him thrown in jail is the last thing they will do. The FRO will allow him to repay support at minimum amount (if at all). Its based on his income he shows. That has nothing to do with the emotional issue.
