My ex-wife made it impossible for me to see my son after our divorce. After 8 years she approached me with the idea of her new husband adopting him. I agreed and my son is now 17 almost 18. My ex is now suing me for back child support. I have proof of 90% of it but some information was lost due to an un-for-see-able problem with our house and all records we damaged. She has a company out of Texas where neither of us has ever lived trying to collect 8 years of back child support that isn't due her. This company has put a lien on a house we were renting and is now trying to put a lien on again to a house we are trying to sell. How do I stop this. I am being harassed by this company - they won't listen to me. I am barely surviving now so hiring an attorney is out of the question. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Exactly how did she make it "impossible" for you to see your son? Unless she was in hiding, I find this difficult to believe.
Did you pay child support directly to the mother, or through a child support agency? You say she "is" suing you, not that she "has" sued you. Yet a company has already put a lien on your home. I don't see how they can do that unless there has been a judgment entry. Has a court of law determined that you are in arrears on child support? |

i would fly out to see him and she would make excuses and then she would only let me see him with her there. I found out she hired an independent agency to collect the supposed back child support. There has been no court case saying that I owe back support. There is no judgment against me yet they actually did put a lien on the rental house we were living in and say they have put one on the house we are now living in but so far I haven't been able to find that they have done it yet. It is just frustrating.

I don't see how they can place a lien against you without a legal judgement. Contact the agency that place the lien and dispute it.

I didn't file contempt of court charges because at the time there wasn't any money for attorney fees. I don't see how they can place a lien either without a judgment but they did it once before on property we didn't even own so who knows. I have disputed this repeatedly with the agency who put the lien on the house we were renting. This is a private agency and they just don't listen.
