My friend who lives in a South American country married a US citizen. He lived in her country for the last 5 months of a one year relationship. They got married. My friend resigned the job that she had had for several years, sold her house and all her belongings in order to move to USA with her new husband. Her new husband came ahead to supposedly prepare things for when she came, but it seems he changed his mind and to justify started to fabricate false stories about the processing of her immigration visa. He fabricated letters from lawyers stating that the visa could no be issued for different reasons, i.e. that her medical exams were showing things that were not right, that he should have not married in her country before marrying in the US and that his passport has been retained, therefore he could not come back for her.
Finally after a long list of false excuses, he said that it was required to come up with $250,000 for the processing of the visa and tried to get the money she got for the selling of the house. Fortunately she did not send any of this money. In some other ways she lost economically and most importantly morally. She has been terribly affected emotionally by this deceitful situation as well as her whole family. She has all the documentation to show what happened: real marriage certificate, false letters, emails, etc. Is there any basis to establish a case against the perpetrator of these actions? She knows his current address, but he changed telephone numbers and email addresses. Thank you very much in advance for any lights you can give my friend on this case, which has been a real tragedy for her. Last edited by Amigasr : Jul 18th, 2008 at 12:52 AM. Yes that is fraud many times over. And faking a lawyer's letter is a felony.
She can take civil and criminal law actions. World Law's lawyers could also probably help resolve this if need be. You may email them on the home page. |
