mediation. me my ex wanted to terminate his rights...
my ex and me were an hour into mediation when my attorney knocked on the door to speak with me for a minute. he told me my ex wanted to terminate his rights, i was shocked, and didnt know what to say. my attorney says that i should agree to this and that it would be for the best, and that the dad didnt care about the kids if he even thought about termination. i began to sign papers and wasnt thinking clearly enough after this to make any decisions. i feel my daughters were robbed of a parent because he was not properly counseled to make this decision and this matter should have been heard before a judge. what should i do? this happen about 3 buisness days ago.

What do you mean by "terminate his parental rights"?
If you mean he does not want to see his children any more, then that is unfortunate but there is simply no way to legally force someone to be a loving parent. BUT...if you mean he terminated his parental RESPONSIBILITIES, then that is a different matter. He still has a legal responsibility to provide financial support to his child. If THAT was negotiated away, then most likely some State laws were violated. |
