The 14th amendment to the Constitution guarantees equal protections under the law. Which means that no matter what one religion says, we have to give equal treatment to all. If we allow heterosexual marriage, we also have to allow gay marriage. We can not discriminate based on sexual orientation, anymore than by religion or lack thereof.

People against gay marriage are scared of gays because of their fear based religions. A gay marriage has no effect on straight marriages. Why would people be against one person loving another? Because gays are one of the last groups these selfish people can hold down in trying to make themselves look bigger. Bigotry, no matter what you call it.

My own marriage fell apart 10 years ago, so who am I to tell other people that their relationship is invalid?

Legislators pass laws all the time in opposition to the popular opinion. Thats how blacks were freed, women got to vote, blacks got to vote and Bush became president.

Patterson is doing the right thing, not the popular thing.
