Default Attorneys/Representatives

I'll keep this concise:

The mother of my child is attempting to get (partial) custody of our child. While I am not adverse to this - after time has proven that she is a more capable mother than she has previously shown herself to be - she has hired an attorney that has shown himself to be a bully, trying to force me to go through court-ordered mitigation at her parents home with all of them present, contacting me at work, etc etc. I alas, cannot afford an attorney and have not yet followed up on getting a pro bono attorney.

Am I within my rights to instruct her attorney to cease contacting me and speak only with my father, who would act as my representative for the case? He got smug with me, telling me I could not do this, as my father is not an attorney, and that he will continue contacting me as he sees fit. Also, he has mentioned that I cannot use an attorney that is outside of my county of residence. Is that true too?

I reside in King County of Washington state.

You can use any lawyer you wish.

If he starts to harass you tel him you will file a Bar complaint and keep all records etc.

That should calm him down.

Also you may ask him to contact you only in writing.

I realize I can use any lawyer, but am I within my rights to choose someone who is not barred to represent me?

Thank you
