Angry Engagement Ring-Diamond Theft

Engagement Ring:
what can I do if I have proof that the diamond in my engagement ring was
swapped for a lesser quality diamond during resizing by the same jeweler who
custom designed and made the ring initially?

You can file a police report for conversion/fraud/theft.

That is a crime.

Do you really have that proof?

I received the original appraisal with the ring and it showed the details of the diamond that was purchased. This appraisal was done by a local appraiser who is a 'buddy' of the jewelers.

One week later, I took it back to the same jeweler and got it sized. When I received the ring back, I noticed all kinds of inclusions in the diamond which I know where not there originally. I followed this up with a phone call to the jeweler noting that I had a concern with the diamond. He assured me that we can take a look at it if I am really concerned about this. To be on the safe side, I took the ring in for another appraisal with a reputable appraiser (GemScan). Upon receipt of this appraisal, the details came back showing absolutely different stats for the ring...almost as though it was a completely different ring. Everything from the carat size to the clarity where off by 2 grades which is a big no no when it comes to appraisals (they should only be off by one grade at the most). Not to mention that on second appraisal, the replacement and insurance value showed up half of the amount that was provided on the initial appraisal.
