I strongly disagree with this court!!
_______ A court ruling that California parents "do not have a constitutional right" to home-school their children has touched off anger and bewilderment throughout America's home-schooling community and prompted a denunciation from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. For a movement that has gained greater accommodation in recent years, a state appellate court decision last month is a setback that, if not overturned on appeal, could force some 166,000 home-schooled students in California to enroll in conventional schools. It may also prod California and other states with vague or nonexistent laws on home schooling to be more specific about what is allowed and what is required of home-schoolers. California's education statutes, for instance, do not mention "home schooling," but officials have allowed the practice for decades. The appellate court, however, found that the state's laws have not been changed to allow home schooling since a case back in 1953 erected a major roadblock to the practice. Governor Schwarzenegger said Friday he would go to the legislature if the ruling is not overturned. |

I don't understand why a parent would want to do that to their child. I coach sports and see a lot of home schoolers. They are all much less socialized than kids who attend a school. It seems only control freaks insist on controlling every aspect of their child's life to such an extent. Make it illegal across the country!

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I coached sports for seven years, have run a youth chess club for five years, ran a summer camp for 10 years, worked at Boy's Clubs and after-school programs, and have a BA in Psychology.
Home-schooled children are no different than those that attend regular schooling. Some are socially well adjusted and excel academically, and some do not. One must also realize that many children are pulled out of school by their parents BECAUSE they are having difficulty adapting to the traditional social atmosphere. In such cases, home-schooling is the result of their low social skills, rather than the cause of it. I would not advocate for or against home schooling, though I feel that the California law treads dangerously on parental rights and I expect it to be overturned. |

We home school and the kids also participate in some youth leagues as well.
And we are happy with it. |

And your kids grow up acting like social retards, not knowing how to make friends. 99.9% of home schooling parents are not qualified to educate their kids. It should be outlawed. It is basically child abuse. Get a life and stop living through your children!

I agree that kids should not be home schooled. It is a control issue with the parents. My boyfriends ex home schools her son. She also is a control freak and does not I repeat does not want this child to like anyone but her. She brainwashed him and he lies for her and keeps secrets for her. He is adult information smart that an 11 year old does not need to know. He does not have many friends and he is socailly inept with other kids. He would rather be around adults. He jsut learned how to ride a 2 wheel bike. He is not allowed in his own back yard without his control freak mother there to hover over him. He is not a normal child and it is sad. And the worst thing is is that he is home schooled 2 hrs a day. at any time of the day or night. There have been times when he is doing school work at 10.00pm at night. He should be in bed for a long time at 10.00 pm. And his mother watches are you smarter than a 5th grader and writes down the questions to teach him. So my experience with home schooling is not good. Parents are lazy and dont want to get up to get the kids ready for school, make lunches, have the laundry done so the kids have clothes to wear to school and they are totally over protective and over controlling. Tbyte let me tell you I would never let you coach my dog never mind my child. You are such a bad role model.

So lets stick to facts and not anecdotes or hyperbole. Quote:

The parents of all the kids I have coached through seven soccer seasons or five years of running a kid's chess club would disagree with you, so you are decisively outvoted on this. The hysterical reaction you people have to home-schooling is ludicrous. |

Im sorry kids should not be home schooled. I was not home schooled and you have no right to assume anything about my parents. Now you on the other hand........ No I am sorry I would never allow my child near you. Your a phsyco. Sorry to say. Well maybe you could do better with kids. I think your on there level, maybe. Home schooling should not be done for 2 hours a day. And not at 10.00 at night. I am sorry If your home all day doing nothing then put your child in school and get a job. I never did homework at 10.00 at night. It called structure. I guess my parents raised me and my siblings better than a lot of other peoples parents. And yes any child that goes to public or Catholic or a Magnet school is better off socially and is more adjusted to live on the out side of the house. I wish they would come up with a law in my state that makes it very hard for people to be home schooled. It is called laziness. Get off your buts and do something.

Allow me to introduce you to a chess coach I know. His name is Mark, and here is his bio on our State's website: --------------------------------------------------------- Mark has been coaching chess for over 3 years. His students have achieved State and National titles. He currently coaches at Avery Elementary in Hilliard, Ohio and in the Olentangy School District. Mark is a scholastic player who has achieved State and National titles, he is rated 1650. He coaches individual players from beginner to intermediate levels. (up to 1300). --------------------------------------------------------- Here is Mark's website, which he built himself: Chessclub4kids.com Yes, Mark is homeschooled. I should also tell that he excels academically. Have you ever built a website like that? How much time have you volunteered to share your knowledge with kids? Have have ever started an organization and kept it running for three years? How well did you do in school? How many of those accomplishments did you achieve before the age of 13? Face it. This 13 year old home schooled child is smarter than you, more talented than you, better spoken than you, and has contributed more to his community than you. Seriously. You can't hardly craft a coherent sentence. You simply lack the right to criticize ANYBODY else's education. The more you spout off, the more you embarrass yourself.
