PLEASE HELP ME! (F-1 visa internship)

Hello everyone,

I came to the US with my parent's work visa (I came as a dependent L-2) three years ago. Unfortunately our visa was not renewed, my parents had to go back to our country, although I will be staying in the US with an F-1 visa, since I already started college.

I was looking into internships and I know one of the requirements to have an off campus internship is to legally reside in the US for one year while completing an academic year at a postsecondary institution.
I completed my freshman year of college with the L-2 visa, but I will start of my second year of college with the F-1. Am I allowed to take an internship off campus in my situation?

I wish to inform you that you should first meet with an ISSS advisor and take along the following documents with you - copy of your official offer letter on company letterhead that is signed by the prospective employer, CPT Recommendation Form completed by your academic advisor along with copies of your current immigration documents to include the passport (biographical data, photo, & expiration date pages), front and back of I-94 card, and I-20(s). If you are eligible the ISSS advisor will authorize CPT by issuing a new I-20. You can participate in an internship program as part of CPT.
