Confused adjusting status to permanent resident from f-1 student

Hi,
I recently won the Diversity lottery and have applied to adjust my status to permanent resident. I have hit a dead end with the immigration office in Tampa. I have met with a lawyer and he told me that there is a law that states I have to finish 24 credit hours per year on top of being registered as a full time student for 12 credit hours per semester. If i fail 2 classes I am no longer legal and considered out of status and I am therefore not able to adjust my status. I cant find any info on this law, is this real because the immigration officer told me to prove to him that I was enrolled as a full time student and it should be fine, even though it's been over 3 months and I have not received a reply from him. I have till september to get my green card but no one is willing to help me.
I need to clarification..
Please Help...

Lightbulb Re: adjusting status to permanent resident from f-1 student

"I have met with a lawyer, and the lawyer says [blah]. I don't believe my lawyer. Will some anonymous person out there tell me that he's a liar, so that I can feel better."

I see this quote a lot.

I notice it especially around boards like this, where people take the advice of people with names like "BeeGeesFan4Life". I'm not so sure about the idea of betting your entire future, and possible deportation and even imprisonment ... and entrusting it to an anonymous bunch of people on a chat board.

You have a lot of trust in the complex technical abilities of a bunch of anonymous and untrained random people.

Maybe the next time your appendix bursts, you can sit at home in front of your screen, typing with one hand, cutting away chunks of your body with a scalpel with the other hand ... while an anonymous person named "Horneee4ThaBooty" directs you in making your incision. Does any of this make sense to you?

Go to another lawyer, and get a second opinion in person.

Or hey! Maybe you'll get lucky!

By the way: the appendix is on the ventral side of your right hip (that's 'your' right, not 'my' right), near the lower end of the large intestine. Good luck!
