Our title’s straightforward enough, right? Needs no further explanation?

Yes, we’re kidding. Let us explain: The Recorder on Friday put out a nice piece on the McKesson trial, detailing the ins and outs of the government’s strategy in landing a conviction Thursday of former McKesson HBOC Chairman Charles McCall. Click here, also, for a take from AmLaw’s Andrew Longstreth.

Jurors on Thursday convicted McCall on four securities fraud counts and one charge of circumventing accounting controls. They acquitted him on a falsifying books and records count. At the same time, they acquitted the company’s former general counsel, Jay Lapine, on each of the three counts he faced.

The trial represented the second bite at the apple for prosecutors. During the first trial, the jury acquitted McCall and Lapine on a conspiracy charge and hung on the rest of the charges.

Our favorite part of the Recorder story: the comments made by jury forewoman Christine Griffith (pictured). We’re sure it happens from time to time, but it hard for us to think of another case in which a lawyer led a jury in a major criminal trial. Griffith is a land use attorney at Ellman Burke Hoffman & Johnson in San Francisco. (According to her bio, Griffith, played varsity basketball at the University of Miami; she graduated from Stanford Law in 1997).

According to the Recorder, Griffith wasn’t too taken with Paul Weiss’s Ted Wells, who led the defense. Griffith was especially critical of the defense’s tactic of calling a witness who testified for the prosecution the first time around, and then giving the witness a blistering time.

“It leaves the jury thinking, well, what are we supposed to do with this information?” Griffith said, adding that the jury ignored the witness because his testimony wasn’t backed by documentation.

Overall, reports the Recorder, jurors liked the prosecutors, calling them thorough, professional and courteous. Said Griffith: “They’re what I’d want my associates to learn from.”

They also liked Lapine’s lawyer, Marcus Topel of Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman. Several said he came off as a “country lawyer” who was approachable.

That contrasts with their impressions of McCall’s defense team. “They were overall less effective than both Mr. Topel and the government,” Griffith said. “It goes to show spending millions of dollars on your defense is not necessarily effective.”

McCall’s team was not available for comment to the Recorder, and a government spokesperson declined to discuss the verdict until after sentencing. Topel said he felt “terrific,” saying he was grateful the jury was able to separate Lapine’s conduct from McCall’s.

I received a letter in the mail that said it was not a chain letter and that it was legal. There is a list of 7 names that I send a dollar to, but also include a note that says \"Please add me to you mailing list\". This is what makes it legal. (It also included a LETTER from an ATTORNEY who said he was the one who told the client to add that statEment and that he had done it and was now retired).I then take off the top name and add mine to the bottom and send it to 200 other people, IF ILLEGAL, WHAT MAKES IT SO. IF NOT, I WOULD LIKE TO TRY THIS. Thanks

Calling DCF

I live in Connecticut and My husbands ex is very mentally disturbed. She has totally brainwashed his son and the child has lied so bad it isnt funny....

I live in Connecticut and My husbands ex is very mentally disturbed. She has totally brainwashed his son and the child has lied so bad it isnt funny. But he is going to be 13. I belive she has munchausen syndome. I had left her a message one time for harrassing us and she called the cops on me. I explained to the cop all the issues with her being mentally unstable, a parental alienator and a mental child abuser. The officer told me that she does have issues and I should call DCF. Now with that said I dont want to call and make a false charge but she is definitly a mental child abuser. She doersnt allow this kid any socail life. he is home schooled maybe 2 hours a day but we dont know how many days a week he is being home schooled. Within the last 2 months tops he has been supposedly bitten by a spider and she didnt take him to the DR until he was in pain and the bite was so filled with pus and what ever was in there that the dr told her that if she waited another day or 2 he could have died. Then he calls his father and tells him he has MRSA. he doesnt go anywhere to get this. he is socaialy inept. then he calls his father and says he has swine flu now he calsl the other day and he tells his fatehr that he was getting out of the car and the car door came back and hit him in the temple and he lost sight for 20 minutes and he almost died or could have died. We belive that she is doing this for her own attention but she has damamged this child beyond repair. I feel that there may be something sexual going on too but I cant prove anything at all.I know she has mentally abused him really bad. While they were going through the divorce the child told the guardian adliteme that his father broke down the glass sliding door and choked his mother and that of course was an out right lie because my husband would have been arrested for breaking and enterering and assault and that never ever happened. The worst thing is the guardian adliteme didnt seem to think there was a problem with this at all. neither did family relations. so my question is this. In the best interest of the child do i call DCF and have her investigated? the problem too is that she is very very devious and manipulative and she can lie like no one else. She lies so much she cant keep track of the lies she tells and she makes this child lie for her too. please help.

R. Allen Stanford. American International Group. Alcoa. Colonial BancGroup.

Those are among the companies and individuals currently being investigated or prosecuted by the Justice Department’s fraud section, which handles complex financial cases and often swoops in to assist U.S. attorneys across the country. It also helps run a medicare fraud “strike force.”

On Thursday, Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, who had said he was looking for a “rock star” from the defense bar to lead the section, announced he was bringing in Denis McInerney of Davis Polk (pictured).

Among other things, McInerney defended Arthur Andersen on obstruction-of-justice charges related to the Enron scandal and in 1994 he also served as an associate independent counsel in the Whitewater investigation. He was a prosecutor in the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office from 1989 to 1994. Here’s the Dow Jones Newswires story.

McInerney will replace Steve Tyrell, who is looking for work in private practice. A deputy chief in the fraud section, Mark Mendelsohn, who supervises Foreign Corrupt Practices Act prosecutions, has also begun to look for work in the private sector. [End of post.]

I was recently injured at work and was trying to figure out if it was actionable. I was electrocuted by an uncovered electrical wiring. This threw me a distance, knocked me out, dislocated my shoulder, and is causing me to have back pain along with occasional migraines. I have found out that my shoulder will need to be reconstructed. One of the managers witnessed it and actually was the one who reset my shoulder. I have a four-month old that I can no longer help my wife take care of. I also am having what I think are depressive moments from not being able to provide for my family. I guess this is what they are as I have always been an upbeat person.
I guess what I am trying to ask is are my employers responsible and if so how would I go about knowing how much to be compensated? Any advice is much appreciated as I have no clue what to do.
