Last night I was pulled over at 4.30AM. I was driving home from a club with a few buddies in the back seat. I had been drinking but it was determined (I also agreed) that I was the most sober to drive home - so I did.
I went through a yellow light, and any officer at 4.30AM who see's a teenager (with other teen's in the car) run a yellow is going to pull them over. I was subject to a breathalyzer and I took it. Only now do I know that I could have asked for a lawyer to buy me more time, potentially making me sober up. I was taken to the jail and was released at 5.30AM when my parents came and picked me up. As of now, I know that my license is going to be suspended for 30 days - the police have told me this. Otherwise, I am not sure what future consequences will arise. I am 20 and have a few speeding tickets, nothing drastic. I would like to know a few things. 1) Since I blew a 0.09 (only 0.01 off legal limit) can this go away? 2) What type of fine am I looking at paying? 3) How many demerit points will be deducted? 4) What long term reprecussions will I face? Thanks, Mike |

Hey There,
I don't see any answers to the question as yet. My best friend went through a r.i.d.e program the other night, at approx 1 am. She was arrested and brought to jail. Her car was towed to a compound. I waited at the station for 5 hours while she was processed then released. I had the chance to speak to a couple of officers about this, You said your license is only suspended 30 days? u may want to check that, sometimes it is 90. If this is your first offense, there may be some leniency on you, with what the punishment/sentencing will be. However, I just read on wikipedia under drunk driving in Canada (Driving under the influence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), that after your first offense, your license will be suspended for a YEAR, and you will have to use one of those ignition devices to start your car, as well, you have to go through some sort of 8 month training program. The repercussions of having this on your record can be pretty severe. Try obtaining a job, most require criminal background checks, and this will show up in a negative way. Try crossing a border again, you won't be able to for at least 6 years or so, or unless you have some sort of waiver. Anyways, good luck to you either way. |
