Son caught with Cocaine in Peru
Hello, my son was arrested yesterday apparently trying to leave Cusco, Peru with approx 4 kilo's of cocaine. I am trying to hire him a lawyer in Peru to assist him but am concerned as I am a little out of my depth here. Can you advise the name of a good criminal lawyer that may be able to handle this on our behalf? What expectations should I have of this lawyer in order to get what I am paying for? I have heard stories of monies being forwarded to lawyers in foreign countries and not receiving any service in return. How can I prevent this from happening to me? Further, what questions should I be asking? Can I expect a contract outlining his obligations? Do I only send a retainer and how can I be sure he is performing on his end on behalf of my son. Is it better to hire a Canadian lawyer to retain someone in Peru on our behalf? Apparently I need to address this immediately as my son is due to go before the judge today. If anyone can help me in this I would sincerely appreciate your efforts on my behalf. Thank you

I wish to inform you that you may contact Canadian Embassy in Peru. In this regard Embassy have certain lawyers on their panel and can be hired by you. Further your embassy can assist in release and providing all the services which may assist your son in release. As your son is a Canadian citizen therefore its duty of Embassy officials to held its citizens. Although services of lawyer will be paid by you on terms informed by embassy.
