i am looking for information on finding out what is procedure for a nebraska narcotics unit might typically follow after receiving an anonymous tip of possible drug activity?
Is there an investigation? And why wouldn't they investigate if the tip that they recd included allegations of dealing and manufacturing? |

They will investigate but they will need to find some other corroboration before they can do too much.

doesn't the investigation typically occur before the search warrant?
at what point after facing criminal charges is information from the investigation made available to the person facing the charges? can and do the police cover up information or disclude parts of their investigation, or even fabricate investigations in order to not reveal their informant? |

That cannot exclude evidence; you would see all evidence after you are charged by filing a motion for discovery.

Any attorney should do this as standard practice, I would be very concerned if he hadn't. If you're just interested & the charges have been filed, as in the case is proceeding, you (or anyone) can technically go to the courthouse & have them pull the court records, all you need is the name of the person charged. The file will contain copies of the search warrants, the affadavits presented to the judge in order to get the search warrants, etc; There probably will not be any actual names presented, generally, a narcotics officer states under oath the reasons he believes a warrant should be issued & that will include sometimes that an RCI (reliable confidential informant) (meaning info provided in the past-reliable) on such & such date did this & he can corraborate (wire, recording, visual surveillance, etc) that an event happened. From this information, a lot of gaps in information (to the defendant or interested parties) should be able to determine their problem. It usually takes to CI's to equal 1 RCI & they need other evidence to back that up. If they're honest.
