One arrested, other not

When police searched my cousin's apartment, drugs were found. We both were there, plus when the police first arrived, two others were there. They soon left, but I signed as a witness and was allowed to stay during the search. My friend was the only one arrested and taken in. She was charged with poss. of Meth with intent, and received 7 yrs probation. This has put me in a very bad light with her family! They think I turned on her to get out of some trouble of my own. That's not the case! I had not been arrested and/or turned CI! This happened in TX. Why did this happen this way?[not that I'm not greatful that I was not arrested!] What are the procedures in a case like this usually?
