I was convicted of a domestic violence related offense about 7 years ago; I had completely put it out of my mind until it jumped up to bite me recently. I was applying for a position in which a crimminal background check was going to be done. I was very confident because I knew I was clean. Then one day the unimaginable happened, the phone call stated "Mr. X" we found a blemish in your background" ! I was stunned because I thought this had been taken care of by an expungement action I had paid the court for.
Did I miss something? I thought any record of conviction would be "expunged", essentially ridding me of any disability to find employment, housing and the semblance of livelihood. What can I do to find out if the expungement order was ever entered by the court? Thx

Who did you pay? Call the clerk to see what was filed.
