removal of fingerprints and criminal record

I was assaulted by my ex last year, I reported him at the police station he was taken and asked to pay a admission of guilt fine and that was punishment enough for me. He has been applying for a job as he has kids and was told he has a criminal record as his finger prints were taken. Can he be removed as he really needs the job and I don't want to create further animosity and the fact that there was no case. Please help I somewhat feel guilty.
