What info do I need to check if business in China is legitimate or not?

Their record, their licensing in China, also which major bank they have an actual account with -- and the proper and correct CORPORATE name on that account.

NEVER pay by Western Union--if they ask you to do so, it is a fraud.

The Embassy can also help give some history in some cases.

Can world law lawyers check if a company is legitimate or not and how successful is it?

We have checked countless companies for foreign buyers, there are many scammers around the international market, it's always suggested to check your chinese supplier before payment. The way we verify a company is contacting the local officials to check their business license for confirmation. the verification report will tell you if you are dealing with a legitimate supplier.
