Married in another country wanting divorce in US

I'm an inmigrant who came with her husband as legal residents 16 years ago. We split up after a few years and I moved to another state to live with my mother. After we split up I never saw my husband again. I had another relationship from what I have a ten years old boy. After 14 years of separation I want to divorce and get my last name back . I would like to know if I can divorce here in Vermont because I'm a resident here. I was married in Peru when I came but I don't have time to go there and stay there for all the paper work for a divorce. My husband lives in Peru I guess. I'm not sure.

I was married in jamaica 11/17/07 ,married 8 months, but i didnt register.
can i get an annulment.

probably not; you will need to divorce

but if that is a critical issue for you have a local lawyer review all of your details and opine
