Thumbs Down Divorce settlement not rendered

I was divorced back in 2002. I was forced to pay my husband alimony for one year because I am in the military and he had to leave his job to go home from Alaska to Oregon. He is NOT in the Military. While we were married he used my Tricare to pay for dental work but he needed so much dental work that the bill was still $4000 worth that Tri-care would not pay. It was in the divorce agreement he signed that he would pay for this. Well a year goes by and I get notified by my command that I owe the Dentist in town money and I'm in trouble. Well I wasn't in trouble for long but I was forced to pay the bill because we were married at the time. I couldn't talk to the free lawyer on base because he had represented my husband. I didn't know what to do. When I got stationed in California I decided to try again with the Lawyer on base. All he did was send a copy of the divorce aggreement with a letter stating he owed money and to contact this office. Well of course he never did. Others are saying there probably isn't anything I can do unless I GO back to Alaska where he moved back to and is living, and go to a court house there and subpoena? Or something.? I really don't know what I can do from here. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

You can ask the original court to hold him in contempt. They may let you appear by phone.

...or you could tryt to sue him in small claims.

Confused Re: Divorce settlement not rendered

if I did try to sue him, can I do that from California? Or do I need to go back to Alaska? I am unsure how that works. Thanks. As I am still a legal resident of Alaska.
