Confused Do I have to apply for a divorce in the US, or New Zealand?

My estranged husband and I were married in Nevada, USA.
My husband is a US citizen and I was a conditional permenant resident, we then moved back to my home country of NZ.
After 2 months he returned to the US to complete a contract.
To make a long story short, he never returned and I haven't heard from him in over 9 years. I have no idea where he is or how to go about getting a divorce.
Do I have to apply for a divorce in the US, or can I apply for one in NZ?

I wish to inform you that although you were married in USA, you can seek a divorce in New Zealand. To seek a divorce in New Zealand, at least one partner has to be domiciled in New Zealand. To be domiciled in New Zealand, it must be your home country and you must be staying in New Zealand. You will need to make an application in the Family Court and serve a copy on your husband. If you do not know his address, you may make a substituted service. Once the court makes the dissolution order, your marriage will be dissolved. Generally, a divorce order overseas is recognized in USA.

If your marriage is a recognized marriage in New Zealand you can seek a divorce in New Zealand irrespective of place of marriage.
