How to Divorce- Married in NY, now living abroad
Hi,
I married a permanent US resident (greencard holder) in NY. I am not a US resident. Now I live abroad and he also no longer lives in the US. How can we get divorced? When he inquired about a NY divorce he was told we needed to be residents and that a NY divorce was not possible. Can I start divorce proceedings from abroad? We have lived apart for 5.5 years. Please help. |

You normally can file where either of you are living if you have been there 6 months--and in some cases even less. Each jurisdiction sets its own time requirement.
