My wife and I have entered into a non contested divorce. I have paid for her lawyer, we agreed upon everything going into this. The paperwork comes back from the lawyer indicating that I will pay maint until she dies or remarries, which is not what we agreed upon. We agreed upon a time limit 15 years. Must they change it if she requests the change be made? Or does this now make out case "contested" even though I am not contesting, what they typed up was not what we agreed upon...
State of Missouri if this matters. |

Was that a court order or was it a proposal from either side's attorney? You do not have to agree to this. We live in a day and age where women are now equals in the work force and a divorced man does not have to pay for support of his ex wife while she's fully able and capable of financially supporting herself.
I personally would not agree to even 15 years. Divorces means both parties moving on with their lives without help or assistance from the other. Don't sign any paperwork giving her lifetime support, and omit the clause where you will support her for 15 years. You don't have to agree to this. |
