I have some questions regarding a sticky divorce situation. I am a U.S. citizen. I married an Indian citizen in November of 2008. We got married in India in a Hindu ceremony. After coming back to the U.S. I found out that she suffered from some severe mental problems. I was never told about this before we were married. After coming back to the U.S. with her and I learned of these problems I filed for divorce in the state of CA. Since I filed for divorce in the U.S. what happens with our marriage in India? Her family is making threats and are seeking to recover all of their wedding expenses. Can they do anything there to me if I were to visit or my family members that live in India? Also, is there a way that I can file paperwork in India to ensure my divorce is recognized there as well? I would appreciate any help.
