Married forty five years I retired to fix up retirement home. Spouse continued to work found someone else and is living with her. Live in Florida we own two homes (one rental property) mortgage on both. Spouse has agreed to give me a legal separation and property settlement when home is sold. He does NOT want a divorce. The house just sold and I wanted to take proceeds and pay off second property and live there. I am sixty five and have no other income and no way to support myself. Spouse has always managed our finances. He now want to put profit from sale of house into a bank account and give me money to live.

He says hanging on to the cash is best. Can someone please tell me which is better pay off mortgage or live off profits from sale of house. I am not sure if this would be in my best interest any really don't understand money matters. Thank you.
