Confused Force a name change?

Can an ex-husband legally force his ex-wife to change back to her maiden name?

I don't think he can but why would she want to keep his name if they are getting divorced?

Angry Re: Force a name change?

Well, I guess that's the question of the day! Perhaps because they were married for almost 20 years and that they have three kids (19, 17 & 13) that she may want to have the same last name with. But still...my boyfriend doesn't want her to have his last name. Their values couldn't be more different.

He can ask a judge to order it but he will have to have very good reasons--not just because he doesn't like her any more.

I don't think there is any way a judge would order someone to change their name, unless it could be proven they were using the name for a deceitful purpose.
Just ignore the threats.
