I am a US citizen. My husband is Canadian..We have been together for 4 years. Married for almost two...My husband was married before me and during the seperation stage he signed a paper stating that they would each remain each others beneficiarys for work Life insurance in Canada. This was not a problem as I had really good policies on myself and him while we were here. He was on a two year sabatical while we were living here. Now parts of the agreement were not filled in like his policy number or name of the company his life insurance is with...so our question is...Is there anyway to get out of it...We dont want to leave the kids out...We want to split it in half..her 50 % and me 50% He was preparing for me to come when he went to change his policy with his work he found out her lawyer sent that paper and it was not changed...I already gave my resignation at work to come there this month...Which means if something were to happen to him...I have no other family and no backup for me and my ten year old. I am really worried because we are actually moving there because he had to move back to get his benifits since he has been diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. Is there a way if we go to a lawyer to have it changed for us to both get ahalf...or should we make other provisions for me and my child...I would not have the money to get back to US or to live there...because I dont have a work visa yet ..even though I was told I am considered a skilled laborer. But even if I get work fast and add everything no company is going to insurance him now. I am really scared. I have to come there no matter what...to be with him..I really need to know what could happen to us. Thanks for any help or direction. Crissandra

No one isa going to give someone with metastatic cancer more life insurance...It does not say he cannot have two beneficiaries though in the formal...and doews not give an amount of entitlement.

The policies were aquired through my job...and were dropped along with my health insurance on myself and my son when I resigned...The health insurance was no problem as he had added us onto his work insurance. I am just going to have to cross that bridge later...right now being with him is more important. I will have to just figure away to save enough to get us along for a few months and to move us back and like the first and last month rent for when I have to move back...Its really something I dont want him to worry about anyway...He doesnt actually know that I lost the policies on him here in the states when I left my job...and I wouldnt dare tell him...then he would be worried also...and he knows his outcome in all of this...so I dont want to spend this year with him trying to figure that out...I just wish I would have maybe took a family leave or something instead of leaving and having everything dropped...I wasnt thinking at first about what happens when we have to leave.
