Question Dower Rights

I have been legally seperated for 9 years and all assests were divided by the court at time of the seperation. I want to buy a house in Michigan and the state recognizes Dower rights. The underwiters want me to have her sign a form waiving these rights. Why would she have Dower rights if we are legally seperated?
