Question Travel by Asylee to home country

Hi. I am a permanent resident got residency through asylum due to my sexual orientation. Need is to go back home to visit my sick old mother. Can I do it without jepordizing my status? Lawyers are not very clear and are advising not to do so. No law regarding such is available. My life would be eventually endangered if I plan to live such life style back in that country. Just visiting and keeping a low profile will not cause a problem. Can I obtain prior approval from the appropriate authority? Thanks
