Default Deportation confusion....HELP!

One of my best friend's whole family got political asylum in the USA and he was over the age of 21 at the time, so he had to file his case separately and unfortunately his judge was not sympathetic, therefore rejected his case. He is now in deportation, as he did not leave voluntarily during the given period of time. Even though his time is up now to leave voluntarily, can he still be given the choice to leave USA honorably? i mean can he still leave this country without being thrown in jail? or without facing too many legal hassles? Does anyone know the consequences he might have to face?

What can his family do for him, since they all were granted political asylum as they (including him) do face a lot of persecution in their home-country due to their religious beliefs.

Please do guide me and my friend in this matter. Thank you in advance.

No he does not have his passport, they took it from him, but he is free, meaning he is not in detention or anything. his family got asylum because they had a very strong case, and his case is exactly the same, its just that he was over the age of 21 so he had to file separately and his judge was not sympathetic at all.

can he still go back voluntarily? please let me know, your help will be greatly appreciated.

If he does not want any further court hearing etc. he may ask the judge if he may just go now. The judge may agree. But the record is still going to show what happened unfortunately.

It might be worth having legal counsel review the entire matter in detail to try to set it up the best way possible if he thinks he may want to try again.

I'm trying to help someone: does anybody know what will happen if one doesn't show up for his/her asylum interview? Please give some details and thank you in advance for trying to answer.
