Default Can green card holder be deportable?

Hi

My wife immigrated to the US 25 years ago and brought her 7 year old daughter. Beginning at age 14 or 15, the daughter began missdeeds, including prostitution, assault, possession of heroin, attempted receipt of stolen property (automobile) and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The daughter, now 32, has appeared to be getting her life together after her latests prison term (2 years).

The daughter now want custody of her 6 1/2 year old daughter, who has been with my wife for 6 years. I have been in the picture for the last 5 years.

I am concerned that the daughter's 15 years of crimes may make her deportable, and if she has custody, it could seriously impact my wife's granddaughter.

I have reseached the immigration laws, and it appears there is a risk. Daughter only recently received another green card. Could her recent application (I suspect she filed the I-90). FBI and ICE are just now catching up on background searchs.

Would anyone care to comment?

Yes she certainly could be deported. But many courts will still give her preference of custody if she is the biological mom...for better or for worse.

This could be for the worst...Until just recently Daughter has had an unbroken history of moral turpitude, and snatching a child away from the only home she has even known, for the purpose of attempting to evade deportation, would just be standard operating procedure. It's sad, but I recall that soon after she got out of prison, and related how she ripped some guy off, I questioned her morals. She replied "A girl's got to take care of herself".

To me, somewhat of a foreign attitude.

And her Mother (my Wife, happy to say) is such a caring, giving person.
