old cc debt
I am in Texas and I had an attorney's office by the name of Sam Streeter call me today. I didn't answer the phone but the message was for me to call them back at a 1- 800 number. Who are these people? I searched them and found out that they are a collection agency. I haven't had a credit card in my name in the past 6 years or more. What do I do about these people? I am a full time student with 2 small children and work part time. The only things in my name are my car which has been paid off now for since 2002, a joint mortgage with my husband and I am not the primary on the loan and my student loans for college. Should I just ignore these people? Why would someone be calling me now after all these years? Do I have to pay them anything? I have been told that in the state of Texas that debt collectors can't do anything but call and harrass you, that they can't garnish money or try to take property or anything like that. I even had an attorney tell me on the side that Texas was a debter's paradise because all anyone can do is call you. What do I do??
