Student Loan
From: Rodger Ballengee (rodge_jules91203@yahoo.com, 337-704-2466)
Area of law: Finance law Country: United States of America State: Louisiana I have recieved a letter stating that I owe the Department of Education for a loan that I did not sign for. The loan had my name but a totally different social security number. However the Dept.of Edu. Has changed the social security number to reflect my number and now a collections agency is attempting to collect on this debt. I have sent in two forms of picture I.D. (state and government issued)and my signature for comparrison. Also I had just turned 17 years old at the time of the loan. What can I do? Please advise. And if you can refer me to an attorney in my area of Lafayette Louisiana that would be great. Thank you very much, Rodger Ballengee. |

If it is not your loan, and you had no such loan, then based on what you say here, you could file suit against them (or at least threaten to do so) in small claims court or in regular court; filing in small claims court is easier and requires no attorney...you could try to collect all of the costs and damages that you suffered due to their behavior... You may also report them to your state attorney general's office.
