Confused Civil Lawsuit

I moved to Iowa in the later part of August. The other day I received a letter from Ohio, from which I came from. It stated that a warrant had been issued for my arrest for failure to show cause. I looked up the case number and read through all the posting, and found that I was to appear in court the end of August, and later in Oct. and Nov. None of which I knew about, nor could of attended. It stated in the court documents that a baliff had served me notice, but he couldn't have, since I was not in the state at the time. Needless to say, it does not state what exactly the debt is for, but does give a figure of 4100 dollars. Yet my cash bond is to be at 5000. Which doesn't make much sense. I need to know what I should do about this. Should I owe money I will be glad to take care of the debt, and I certainly don't want a warrant out on me. What advise can anyone give as how to handle this. I've never been faced with this type of situation. I do not know who to ask, or where to turn. The reason I left Ohio in the first place was my partner passed away, and I moved home to be closer to family. I own nothing, and have nothing. Please advise.

Well at this point I would suggest you have a local lawyer resolve it.

You might try a call to the prosecutor first and discuss the lack of service of process as to the court papers. But once a warrant is issued, it is best to get counsel involved.

Thanks for the response. I figured I would have to find a lawyer to handle this.
