Garnishment - urgent

HELP!! a garnishment has been placed on my bank acounts by a debt collector - i have told the collector that i am able & willing to make payments on this debt, but they stated that the garnishment can not be removed unless full payment is made - what can I do? with my money unavailable i can't hire an attorney to fight the judgement - is bankruptcy an option for removing the garnishment? again, i'm willing to make payments......

any help would be appreciated.......

Did you fail to appear at court? It would seem so.

How much do you owe them and how much is in the account?

How odl the debt was?

I never saw a request to appear in court - they say they sent it but i never saw, might have gone to the debt consolidation company i had contracted with at the time. The debt is at least 4 years old - about 3 yrs ago I contracted with debt cons firm - they negotiated and I paid off through them 2 other debts. This creditor would not take payments from 3rd parties - i found that out earlier this year anf took the money they had in my account. but never heard from the creditor until a few days ago that a judgement was placed...... the total amount owed now is $28K.

in my bank accts? combined checking & savings was over $7K......
