Credit Card Debt Hong Kong

I have some credit card debt in Hong Kong that I have been paying on. I plan to pay it off, but I have a question, if something happens and I am unable to pay, can I be sent to jail for this? I know my credit rating in HK would be ruined.

I wish to inform you that there can be jail time for credit card default. In this regard generally if the credit card company is of Mainland China then penalties for Hong Kong residents using cards issued by mainland banks will depend on whether the card was issued in the mainland or Hong Kong, and the liability specified in the contract. Users in China are subject to law that specifies “malicious overdraft” as a criminal offense.

Thanks for your answer. The credit cards were issue by banks in Hong Kong. The banks were Hang Seng and Standard Chartered.
