My daughter was hospitalized in the fall of 2005 for pancreatitis. Her employer did not provide any health insurance. Because she is a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe she went to an Indian Hospital. After several days the attending physician chose to admit her to the ICU but because there were no beds available at the Indian facility he had her transferred to one of the non-profit facilities in the city we live in. They accepted her knowing she had no insurance. Last week she received a letter from an attorney stating she must pay the second hospital $22,000. What options does she have and how should she proceed?

Did she sign anything when admitted.
If so she may be liable though they will not likely want to sue if she has no assets. |

I don't think she signed anything. The only asset she has is a car we just bought - but it is in both of our names. Should I put it in only mine? Can they garnishee her wages?
