Stop payment check: a temp employment agency payroll check was returned

A local check cashng outlet said a temp employment agency payroll check was returned (the check for $350 was cashed in 02/2003) Now the check cashing outlet is demanding payment in three days or call the police. I am not sure why the temp agency stop payment (they discoverd an overpayment) The merchant came to my new job last week to demand payment. or call the police on me. What are my options.

They normally need to deal with the one that wrote the check, which it seems here is the temp agency. Ask the outlet to contact them. The check was valid when written to you. You could also file charges against the temp agency if you wish.
