Requesting account information

I am currently trying to repair my credit. When reviewing my report, there was one particular credit account that was negative from a couple of years ago. I contacted the collections agency to request I be sent any/all documentation in regards to my account because my fiance is repairing his credit through a lawyer\'s office and those were the procedures given to him. The collections agency representative said they could not send me anything but a notice and proceeded to hang up on me. My question is whether or not I have the right to have my account documentation sent to me?

NEVER communicate with a collection agency via the telephone. Always do it in writing, certified, return receipt requested.

Send them a validation request letter, send it certified, return receipt requested. If they do not respond to your request for validation of debt within 30 days, they must remove the item from your credit report.
