Confused How can you STOP Collection Agencies??

West Virginia - Due to health and income I could no longer pay all my bills. That was over 5 years ago. 2 years ago I had to quit work due to my health. I have no income and do not own anything. I am married, however it was and is all his. They have rolled the amounts over and over and over to different companies where I don't even know who some of them are. They call constantly, some of them 4 and 5 times a day. I have told them of my situation and no longer even bother to answer the phone. How can I get them to stop? Any legal advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Change your phone number. Do not ever talk to a collection agency on the phone. Insist all communication is done in writing.

If they mail you anything, respond with a debt validation request letter. You can google search for samples.

If your income is low I believe World Law Direct can assign a lawyer for you in many cases. Then all calls must go to the lawyer. Try emailing them on their home page, ask for the free pro bono services.
