If you get a summons saying you're being sued for credit card debt and it is not your original creditor, it is a debt collector and you don't show up, what is the worst scenario that could happen. Your income is exempt, which is SSI & that is your only income. You own no property. Do you have to appear. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Yes. It is in your best interest to appear. If you do not, the debt collector will win by default.

It is usually very difficult for a debt collector to prove they own your debt. Contact a Consumer Protection attorney now. The burden of proof is not on you, it is on the plaintiff. But you need to appear and present your side of the case if you have any hope of winning. Regardless of what you have for assets, you will lose this case if you do not appear.

Make your credit card payments on time. It is advised that you always pay the minimum amount due on your card to get rid of any additional charges that may be charged on your card in form of late payment etc which may turn into heavy debt. So always be punctual in making the payments on time to avoid being sued for credit card debt.
