theres no moneys

My father passed last December and left my mother with a large amount of credit card debt.
They were never married but her name was on the credit cards also. They were renting their house and had nothing of worth while my father was alive. Since his death we have moved mom down with my sister. Bill Collectors started to call way before my father passed. Even track him down while he was in the hospital (thank god I answer his room phone). Anyway,
Mom lives with sister, who also just rents her home. Sister found out yesterday while checking her checking acct all her moneys are gone from some kinda of attachement or lien.
Sorry so long-Question:
Can they collect from my sister and make her pay my dads debt? We live in California.
We have told them that there is NO money to pay them-we cannot even come up with the money to file bankruptcy for my mom. Now my sister has check bouncing everywhere and she no savings...What can we do???

They cant collect any money from you or your sister unless either one of you are on the cards/or that your mother is on your sisters account or your account.

Collection will always try to get their money any way they can.

So this that you say doesn't sound very legal to me.
