Angry Paid collection/orig. creditor says no

I owed a credit card company money that was put into collections. The credit card company hired an attorney firm to collect the debt from me. I paid the debt and I recieved a payoff letter from the attorney firm, but the original credit card company says i still owe them $112 though the attorney firm says it has been paid. Seems to me the law firm hired by the credit card company is an extension (by way of a contractual agreement with the attorney firm to collect the debt) of the credit card company. Wouldn't the payoff letter I recieved from the attorney firm be the end of it, or am i still obligated to pay the original creditor the$112.

I agree with you, but to cover your bases you should send dispute letters by certified mail--return receipt requested to all three major credit reporting agencies, the credit card company, and the attorney. Your rights are governed by the FDCPA and the FCRA, and to learn more I would suggest going to Federal Trade Commission. Hope all works out in this. AJJ
