Confused Unusual issue?

I just have a general question regarding a past experience I had with an older (60’s) man. This guy; come to find out was really into buying peoples friendships. He would just throw money at who ever he wanted and saying “you never have to pay me back”. He flaunted his way around doing this with a few people including myself.

Now he claims that he is almost a million dollars in debt and sais people owe him money, he makes shallow, passive aggressive threats at times. He sais his family is furious with him and the people that he gave money. To put into prospective amounts are quite a bit per person over the past five years (amongst a hand full of people).

I can’t really say I feel all that bad for him as he more less did this to himself. He sais he’s going to loose his house and his retirement. I’ve been wondering all along what he’s been thinking while he was doing all of this.

My question being; is there anything he can do to come after those of us who he “gave” money. Most of what was given was material items, Vehicles, furniture, housing, etc. All along while he was doing this he would just say don’t worry about paying me back, you’re my friend and I never expect anything in return.

I don’t know any of the other people, other than one guy – he moved and ended up filing bankruptcy.

Legally speaking is there anything he can do; nothing was ever signed as to any form of payback?

Any advice welcome!

Not really.

Any money he gave away is gone...

[Any large amounts given just 90 days before bankruptcy could possibly be clawed back into bankruptcy court.]

He claims he can come after me and have money taken out of my pay checks. He sais he has an attorney that would set it up; I often times think he’s full of hot air but I don’t know for sure.

Can someone in a situation like this pull off wage garnishment? I would think there would need to be some form of documentation backing the garnishment.

Any feedback appreciated!

No--he has to go to court and win first and he will not be able to win based on what you say here.
