Inlaws trying to put lien on our house..Help

Hi...I would appreciate any feedback given. Last year parents agreed to build a very large extension on our home with their own money as an investment. After the renovations are complete the verbal contract is that the house will be sold and they will recoup their investment and we would get the rest of the profit.

Due to family squabbles they have threatened not to finish the work and to put a lien on our home. The house is half finished and unliveable. Do they have a legal right to put a lien on our home even though they are breaking the verbal contract for petty reasons? Now we are not sure if we will be forced to sell our house to pay them back. We do not want to sell it till it is done. We are not forcing them to quit..they are choosing to.

I know we made a dumb mistake agreeing to this, but they are now going to try and ruin us financially.

That should all be in writing and even now you should all get it agreed in writing.

They can try to place a lien but if they do, you can object in court due to their breach.
