Wages garnished never received anything, i do not own this debt.

Hi, today at work my employer gave me a letter stating that my wages would be garnished until the debt of 3,000 was paid off. Now i have never received any notice or telephone call at all about this supposed debt. When i called the attourny his assistant told me that is was from a citibank/verizon card from hsbc bank. I have absolutely no idea what this is and i am sure i have never owned one i dont know were this debt it coming from. I have never had a citibank account and i have only had hsbc bank account once 12 years ago under my parents which has since been closed. Now the lady claimed that they spoke to me in 2005 which is also false. Did somebody steal my identity? How can they garnish my wages without me ever being sent a registered letter or anything, not even a phone call. I dont know what to do this is rediculous i am being forced to pay a false debt.

HSBC is the finance company for Best Buy

Ask the employer for the court document and you can move to set it aside if you were never served court papers.
